ADDING AN AUDIO OUT JACK TO THE WK-3000/3100 by Jim W. |
||
This warning was added by Pianoman (WARNING! Although adding the jack is not that difficult or complicated, you are voiding the Casio One Year Warranty by opening and plugging a hole into your wk-3000/3100. Soldering is a somewhat basic skill, but as with any skill, it needs to be developed and perfected. If you have never soldered before, or if you are out of practice, I would suggest you trying your soldering skills on a discarded piece of electronic equipment before trying it on your $300+ keyboard!) Here are some pictures of my wiring of a line out jack (so I can also have the internal speakers on...along with an external amp) The most important one is 'my wiring'....they are all big pictures to show details I used a Radio Shack 274-249 1/8" Phone Jack.... so I only needed to drill a small hole. I did have to sand the inside of the place I mounted the jack.... to get it thin enough to push the jack thru the side of the Casio....I think I picked the thickest part of the whole case! The Radio Shack 274-312B 1/4" Phone Jack would also fit. Laying the keyboard on a couch, with the keys forward, allowed me to open it up, and tip the bottom to the back of the couch. You have to wiggle the keys out of the little plastic strip across the bottom of the case...very easily. Also make sure not to get the wires in the slot all around the case....where it fits together. Be sure not to get the connections too hot...I melted a bit of solder on the wire I added first...then a quick touch to the Casio board melted it together nicely. The wires I used were some old jumper cables I had in my junk box. I bought a test meter to figure out where to make my connections (it was on sale...I saved $10...made me quite happy!) Jim W
