Is the Casio wk-3000/3500/CTK-691 a Gig worthy instrument? |

| By Pianoman The Casio WK-3000/3500/CTK-691 keyboard might be, or not be, a gig worthy instrument depending on how you answer these two questions. One, will you be leaving the instrument at the job site? This is a Casio keyboard, which means it is decently built but... it is still a plastic case keyboard and I would not recommend lugging it constantly. Many say that the wk-3000/3500/CTK-691's are probably the first "disposable" gig instruments in the market. I might consider this to be partly true, but it will depend on how you answer this second question. How picky are you, as a musician, regarding the sounds that come out of your synth? I've read posts, in the now missing Casio Forum, that said "these are the best sounds I've ever heard". Well, some of the sounds are pretty good, but all around, the sounds do not have the professional depth that exigent pros are used to. This does not mean the wk-3000/3500/CTK-691 cannot reproduce those "heavier" sounds, what it does mean is that you will have to load some of those sounds into your keyboard. You will have to make do with a measly 1.5 megs, which is not that much considering some great Steinway piano samples can go up to 4+ megabytes in size! I believe that if you find a decent bass sound (I play mostly swing and Latin and the built in tones do not cut it) and a new drum wave set (the downloads at Casio are not that great), you can have a fine keyboard that will make you sound good at any gig!
