| Is there any way to reorder or otherwise organize SMF files in flash memory, or am I restricted to the original order in which I transferred the files from my computer? | ||
| By Pianoman The Casio Music Data Management software does not put any type of index on the midi files converted and does not sort them alphabetically. I changed the creation dates of the files and this did not work. The files created by the Casio's DMS software are PC-DOS compatible. The keyboard will check the storage media and will go by the directory tree, which means, whatever you uploaded first to the Smartcard or floppy disk will be read first. Unless you want to try to change the tree structure, I suggest using the following method to change the order of midi files. READ THIS MESSAGE FROM TOP TO BOTTOM BEFORE EXPERIMENTING. Floppy disk. If you have a floppy disk I found the following method fast and accurate (without having to use the Casio Music Data Management software again with its nerve wrecking slow pace). The files to be re-sorted to the floppy disk must be already in Casio midi format for this to work (in other words already processed by the Casio DMS at least once). Put the disk with the files to be re-arranged in the computer floppy drive. Use a file management program like Total Commander or Norton Commander (any will do as long as you can drag and drop files from one directory to another) and open the A: drive in one of the panels. Copy the files to be re-sorted to the hard drive, or, if you have a backup in your Hard Drive of them in the Casio midi format, go to that directory on the other panel. You can either delete the files on the floppy after copying them to your hard drive or get a brand new floppy disk (recommended). You should have two panels visible in the file management program, one with the floppy displayed and the other with the files to be re-sorted. You should now be able to drag and drop the files in the order that you want the wk-3x00 to display them in the download screen. Remove the disk from the computer and put it in the keyboard floppy drive. The midi files should now be in the order you want them! Smartcard. This should work with a Smart Memory Card if you already own or purchase an inexpensive Smartcard reader/writer. If one did not come with your PC or printer (i use the one in my printer), you can purchase one for less than $30 in CompUSA, Best Buy or Circuit City. Substitute the floppy drive for the drive letter :X of your reader. This is easier to do than it reads. If you have an easier method, please post it in this forum! |
